Use [ ] and ( ) to identify kanji and their furigana readings, the basic format is: [kanji](furigana)
For example enter [日本語](にほんご) to write 日本語 with its reading にほんご as 日本語 にほんご
Caution: Be sure you are in your English IME when entering the [ ] and ( ) characters, those are Latin braces and parenthesis not Japanese 「」()characters, there is a difference. Japanese subtitles can be either one or two lines. The | character is used to denote line breaks in a multi-line subtitle., New lines are only available for Japanese subtitles and there can be only one | per subtitle.
The | is called a ‘pipe’ character and on many keyboards is located above or near the Enter key and can be entered by typing Shift + \ key. English reference subtitles are single line only
